EMBARRASSING MALE BREAST? WE CAN HELP!
Gynecomastia or “man boobs” is an embarrassing condition that affects nearly 65-70 % of males. Guys with enlarged breasts often wear double shirts, haunch over to cover up their enlarged breasts, and avoid taking off their shirt in locker rooms or in front of their loved one’s. Gynecomastia has a significant negative impact on self-esteem and psychology and the well being of the individual.

WHAT IS GYNECOMASTIA?
Gynecomastia is a medical condition that causes excess tissue to form in the male chest, resulting in what is commonly referred to as “man boobs.” The issue can be compounded by the accumulation of excess fat in the breasts.
Gynecomastia can affect men of all ages, though it primarily occurs in young men undergoing puberty and older individuals. Though this condition is typically not painful, it can be significantly detrimental to a man’s self-esteem and can prevent him from feeling comfortable with his appearance inside and outside of clothing.
Fortunately, gynecomastia can be effectively addressed with the help of male breast reduction. Dr. George Solomon is a top cosmetic surgeon who specializes in the surgical correction of gynecomastia. He has provided numerous patients with the care they need and can use his surgical expertise to provide you with outstanding results.
WHAT CAUSES GYNECOMASTIA?
Gynecomastia is typically the result of an increase in the production of estrogen in the male body, sometimes triggered by a decrease in the production of testosterone. Estrogen is responsible for breast growth.
When estrogen levels become higher than normal, it causes an increase in the growth of glandular tissue in the breasts, as well as increased fat accumulation. This can result in:
- Increased breast size
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Discharge from the nipples
CAUSES OF GYNECOMASTIA
Hormonal imbalances in the male body that lead to the development of gynecomastia can be caused by a wide variety of factors. Diagnosing the cause of gynecomastia is key in resolving the condition.
Many young men develop gynecomastia during puberty because of the fluctuating hormonal levels in the body during that time. Aging leads to a decrease in the production of hormones, which can also lead to an imbalance. An average of 25% of men develop gynecomastia between the ages of 50 and 69.
Certain medications and substances are known to lead to the development of gynecomastia due to their effects on hormone levels in the body, including:
- Anti-androgens
- Antibiotics
- Anxiety medication
- Treatments for cancer
- Anabolic steroids
- Heart medications
- Alcohol
- Marijuana
Certain health conditions can cause gynecomastia to occur due to the way they affect the balance of hormones in the body. Conditions known to cause gynecomastia include:
- Hyperthyroidism
- Tumor growth
- Kidney failure
- Hypogonadism
- Malnutrition
- Liver failure

TREATING GYNECOMASTIA
In some cases, gynecomastia may resolve over time. However, in many cases the issue persists and requires treatment. There are medications that can be used to treat gynecomastia, but they are not always a viable option and may not provide results that fully satisfy the needs of the patient.
Male breast reduction surgery to remove excess glandular tissue or excess fat from the breasts is a highly effective option for treating gynecomastia. Two main techniques can be used.
If the primary issue is the presence of excess fat in the breasts, liposuction of the chest can provide excellent results. If excess glandular tissue is the cause, incisions are made in the chest and the tissue is removed (excised) with a scalpel. Excess skin is often present and can also be removed via scalpel excision.
MALE BREAST REDUCTION RESULTS
Male breast reduction for the treatment of gynecomastia is normally a one-time procedure, unless there is extra redundant skin that needs excision. Dr Solomon’s approach to this procedure includes the use of a Vaser ultrasound to emulsify the fat, power-assisted liposuction, or a combination of both to remove the fat then then make a small incision to remove the gland which lies under the areola.
Once the gland is removed there is no more puffiness or pointed nipples. Liposuction alone does not work. The gland has to be removed or destroyed.
The procedure will take a couple of hours and is done under local anesthesia with IV sedation. No General anesthesia, no tubes in the throat, and a fast recovery of only one or two days. You will see your breast going flat in front of your eyes immediately. You may have some swelling for three to four days, but the swelling will subside.
